195. Anniversary of the death of Giovanni Battista Venturi

The Italian physicist was born in Bibbiano in 1746
and died in Reggio nell´Emilia in 1822 after many achievements.
Among other things we owe him the discovery of the Venturi effect,
as well as the development of the Venturi pump and the Venturi nozzle.

The Venturi effect explains the continuity law for incompressible fluids:

At given volumetric flow rate the flow rate of an incompressible pipe flow
is inversely proportional to the pipe cross-section. This means that the
velocity of the fluid is the highest where the cross-section is the smallest.
